True Blue from Royal Copenhagen

We can’t get enough of the deep blues and crisp whites of Royal Copenhagen’s china collection! From navy to royal hues, each detailed design handpainted upon pristine porcelain is a specimen of truly incredible craftsmanship.

The classic blue and white table setting is a cultural and historical icon for Denmark. Inspired by the legacy of porcelain-painting in the east, the founder of Royal Copenhagen (known as the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory back then in the 18th century) imported a chrysanthemum motif from China - painted in ultramarine, a pigment that was expensive to create and hard to get just right. This motif was to be refined into Royal Copenhagen’s traditional design known today as the Blue Fluted Service.

For Scandinavians, table settings continue to hold a place of high importance today. In a culture that esteems hospitality, being a good hostess is paramount. So when it comes to entertaining, you want to present a spectacularly set table to match your delicious meal!

And Royal Copenhagen continues to create magnificent ceramics with contemporary concepts - bright outsized florals and solid block colours. They also unveiled a collection with a magnified cobalt chrysanthemum theme, playing homage to the traditional Blue Fluted Service with snippets of the original design.

Royal Copenhagen’s wide variety encourages you to pick and choose the pieces that speak to you. You can pair smooth ceramics with delicate glassware, combine solids with patterns, the traditional with the modern. You can mix and match tableware to suit your style and create your own, personal collection… just like your wardrobe!

 Bergstrom inspired by Royal Copenhagen

Inspired by Royal Copenhagen, you’ll see our love for this ‘blue period’ come to life in the Spring and Summer Collection. From alluring ikat prints to stalwart stripes, cobalt pops against clean whites. Contrasting patterns are combined in these two colours to make a bold and beautiful statement, this time on a canvas of flowing fabrics. It’s a passion for blue, in a modern expression of our cultural heritage.
