image: The classic blue and white table setting is a cultural and historical icon for Denmark. Inspired by the legacy of porcelain-painting in the east, the founder of Royal Copenhagen (known as the Royal Danish Porcelain Factory back then in the 18th century) imported a chrysanthemum motif from China - painted in ultramarine, a pigment that was expensive to create and hard to get just right. This motif was to be refined into Royal Copenhagen’s traditional design known today as the Blue Fluted Service.
